DRAGONBOAT FESTIVAL SPIRIT

Thousands of people at Stanley Thursday to see the DragonBoat races. It was a little gloomy and rainy but everyone was pumped anyway. My camera only survived the first half of the day walking along the beach to see our UofM friends compete. It ws packed madness insanity. I was drenched. One fatal wave crash to the head was all it took to end my Nikon. The teams were all in spirit overdrive, so much fun. It felt like all of HK was there and paparazzi too. The second half of the day we retired to our Junk Boat out on the harbor for drinks and food and a little good time chinese kareoke. Then the monsoon really started to hit and our little boat had to rock its way back to central. 2 hours later after nearly getting sick I stumbled off the junk to end my first experience on the South Asian Seas.

ART HK

One of the best exhibitions i've been to in awhile. Hundreds of International galleries presented at the HKCEC a week or so ago and it was amazing. My favorites were the sculptures and freestanding pieces. Some of the NY galleries were quite good and Tokyo as well but I was really feeling the Chinese galleries the most. See below for my favorites. I dont know if I could put one of the fat men in my apt...but on second thought somewhere near the refrigerator wouldnt be a bad idea....I also dont know how attractive it would be to have spilled bean soup all over the floor in the living room. But definitely something to talk about.

Jiggly Bunny Mounds.

I'm not sure if they are jello...or a hard custard but I first noticed them around Easter time and thought it was just a cute phase. oh no.

These babies are out year round here in HK. and its not just bunnies, we got frogs, bees, monkeys...you name it. I braved trying one of these jiggly animals the other day and there is actually cake inside. turns out the jiggly mounds are pretty good.

Lunch with the coworkers is always interesting. They love to help introduce me to the finer delicacies of cantonese cuisine...chicken feet, cow stomach, and as seen here, octopus balls.

BUDDAH MOUNTAIN

On the Island of Lantau in the South Asian Seas, tucked deep into the hills and accessible by the Ngong Ping Sky Rail lies the Buddah. The Biggest man-made outdoor Buddah sculpture in the world. Its kinda shocking and slightly weird. Such a tourist trap. And yet a religious symbol still?

Most interesting part:Po lin Monastary at the bottom, buddhist monks serve vegetarian meals to visitors for a small fee. The soup comes first and looks like hot dish water with a few bubbles..i found one piece of bamboo at the bottom and figured out that it was bamboo soup...then there's the veggies and meat flavored tofu, RICE, tea, fried egg rolls minus the egg and bok choy. the best is the chinese cafeteria type setting and NO PHOTOGRAPHY allowed. like something special is going on. secretive monks.
